Maryland DL Mbi Tanyi to attend Texans' local prospect dayThe 6-2, 283-pound George Bush graduate ran the 40-yard dash in 4.93 seconds and bench pressed 225 pounds 30 times at the Terrapins’ Pro Day workout.

He had a 29 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 7.75 three-cone drill and a 4.8 20-yard shuttle.

Tanyi started every game last season and recorded 36 tackles, two for losses last season.

Tanyi has played outside linebacker and across the defensive line, appearing in 40 career games. He had 67 career tackles, four tackles for losses and two sacks.

Tanyi played for three different head coaches in college and overcame shoulder surgeries to his left and right labrums. His teammate and friend, Jordan McNair, died after being hospitalized and suffering heat stroke during a workout, leading to the dismissal of coach D.J. Durkin.

Tanyi was a first-team all-district selection and a team Most Valuable Player and team captain as a senior, recording 26 tackles, seven for losses and 2 1/2 sacks.

Tanyi’s parents immigrated from Cameroon. He earned eight scholarship offers to Division I schools.
